Editorial Review for 230 Fifth – by Katie Heffernan

In Short
Gilded elevators open onto a penthouse cocktail den practically stretching to the horizon. The mirror- and window-lined room looks like an '80s interpretation of the art deco era, with low-slung suede sofas in deep sunset hues and some of owner-art collector Steven Greenberg's 1940s modernist furnishings. A chrome staircase leads to a sprawling rooftop like you've never seen before: Almost 360 unobstructed degrees--including a dead-on of the Empire State--alongside breezy palm trees.

I went to 230 Fifth ave this past saturday and the service me and my friends received was horrible to say the least. The drinks are overpriced to begin with but I get it, you are paying for the view. At 11 oclock, my friends were online waiting to get in & after an hour waiting, they were told to buy 2 bottles or get off the line. We had just bought a bottle upstairs waiting fpr these group of friends so we got the manager to tellhim that. At first he said he would let them in if they bought 1 bottle...once they were in, he told them they had to buy 2 and they couldn't even get their own table..they had to squish into ours... THe manager, Steve, is an a***ole. He was disrespectful and rude. FOr a place that says on their website, "bottle service is offered to those patrons who ask for it" Bull**it....they were only allowing people who bought at least 2 bottles in after 1145...(who gets to a club before 12 in the city?) and then when you got up there the place was basically empty. Then in the middle of the night while we were dancing, the waiter cleans our table and takes our bottles away while they were still half full....the service sucked...the food and drinks are overpriced...the only nice thing was the view. I would never step foot in that place again....

Pros: view

Cons: service, food, drinks, prices

I went there this past Saturday with a group of 5. To be honest just my one girlfriend and my self were good looking, while everyone else was slightly above average. Needless to say were weren't able to cut the long line from a Saturday night. However, since it was relatively early (12) we ventured elsewhere and returned to 230 5th around 2. No line!! AND no purchasing bottles!! We went straight up and the view alone is well worth the wait. My suggestion: go elsewhere first, come back later on weekends.

Pros: No cover, views, drinks are decent.

Cons: Lines are long, bouncers pick very unattractive people to let in

An expansive deco penthouse lounge and tropical wraparound rooftop, both with views to envy.  See the full editorial review.
